Oh what a tangled web...

Well, at the suggestion of a colleague, I tried upping the iMac to OS
9.2.2 and applying Apple's "Ethernet Update 2.0".

It worked.

So now I have to upgrade all our lab-based 10/100 Macs to 9.2.2. No
big deal, but THAT'S gonna break the installation of NAV 6. *sigh*
No better time to jump to Virex, I suppose.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

I'll just say as an aside, and keep in mind that I'm a HUGE Mac fan,
that I am starting to sympathize somewhat with my good friend and
friendly neighborhood Network Administrator. It's rather tiresome to
have to "dumb down" our network to accommodate Macs which seem to do
things in such a non-standard manner when it comes to networking. We
can't have Spanning Tree ANYWHERE. From what I've read about it it
would be incredibly useful. Now there's THIS whole issue I wrote
about. If that Apple patch hadn't worked, we'd have been forced to
slap a 10Mb NIC in the server just to accommodate the Macs (and
prayed that it worked!)

Not really a rant on my part. More of a pessimistic musing.

Thanks for the suggestions,
...ROMeyn
