Well , my wife bought the 98 updater. There were several weirdnesses on
that machine that perhaps 98 will fix.

As for updating, there is nothing except newer hardware and a program
like Photoshop Elements that forces us to upgrade. We use none of the
things (VB, Active X etc) that you mentioned. We get along fine with the
versions of word & excel that we purchased when the business first went
over to windows in 1996. A couple of computers have 98 on them, one
because it was installed on the computer when it was purchased, one
because that person had to have it, and now, another to run Photoshop
Elements and, hopefully allow a SanDisk Compact USB Card reader to work.

The person who first had to use 98 because it came on her computer, 95
won't run on it, hates it. She would go back to 95 if she could. She
told me that 95 on her old 125mhz computer runs faster that 98 on her
500mhz computer. It is just that she does much work with images, and has
to have the faster computer. It's because of people like us, who make
buying decisions on what we actually need, and are self contained enough
not to be swayed either by hype or forced to keep up with the Joneses,
that Micro$ft wants to rent software by the year. Pay up or your program
will stop working.

All we are is running a small business. What's wrong with 6 year old
OS's and programs and hardware as long as they do everything you need.
We are running the business on Visual Foxpro 5 quite nicely, thank you
very much. And Bill has wanted to kill Visual Foxpro in favor of Visual
Basic, but thank God he can't as there are too many important customers
who rely on it.

Well my two cents. I use a Mac myself and I have no illusions about
Steve. than the rest.
