Personally we only use AppleTalk for printing to deskjets (unless anyone has
a way to print via IP from a client to a deskjet either directly or via NT)
and for Network assistant, since I have not had much luck using it in IP
mode.

All other file and printing is already being done via IP. We use
ExtremeZ-IP for file sharing AND printing. All laser printers are defined
in NT with 2 setups, PCL and PS, the PCL ones are sared for Windows and the
PS ones are set up for Macs.

ExtremeZ-IP allows you to define a printer, then link that to a PPD file and
a windows printer. when you use their utility on the client, you select the
printer, have a chance to download the PPD if you want, and it creates a
desktop printer that communicates with the EZIP server via IP.

Printing is FAST and I have had ZILCH issues compared to using SFM. Not
only that, but printers that are not for Mac users (PCL) are not even an
option. (You could of course do that with SFM with a little configuration
of the service and printers).

So if I could use NT for Deskjet printing with full functionality, I would
be happy to turn Appletalk off. The few legacy Appletlak devices would end
up being stand alone and off we go.

BTW I have nothing against Appletalk. But for Speed and ease of
use, especially with SLP (The IP equiv. of Appletalk self registering devices
which EZIP also fully uses (SFM does not)) IP is the way to go.
