I, for one, will be greatly disturbed by Cisco not continuing to support
AppleTalk.

For my campus, the AppleTalk network architecture (i.e. AppleTalk Zones)
is how most of our users experience the campus network (we are primarily a
Mac campus).
We use Cisco routers to define zones and cable ranges on our network.

One of the big reasons why we chose Cisco Routers over other products was
so we could maintain the familiar Zones structure
of the network - from the end user's perspective.

Clients running Mac OS 9.0 (I believe) and later can connect to AppleShare
IP servers using TCP/IP as the protocol instead of AppleTalk - however,
the presentation of the network and its devices didn't change along with
this capability.

As an aside, one of the reasons why I consider Mac OS X 10.1.x to be such
a great improvment over the original release is that when you select Go
--> Connect to Server, you can see the familiar AppleTalk Zones and the
servers in them. This will make it much easier for us to begin having end
users on machines running OS X...

Just my 2 cents....
