Next message: Richard Doyle: "RE: [WinMac] IMAP access problems with WinGate LAN."
Hi again,
I have been using some local Russian techs to help me setting up a home LAN
that is composed of a Fujitsu-Siemens Celvin (legacy free PC), an old IBM
Aptiva and a UMAX Pulsar. The Celvin is using Win 98 SE (UK), the Aptiva is
using a 98lite version of Win 98 SE (UK) and the UMAX is using OS 9.1. My
problem is that while Internet access works, it isn't possible for me to
access my IMAP account (Outlook Express & Entourage) with anything except
the Celvin, which is running both WinGate and PC McLan and is of course the
machine that Internet access is going through.
During the past 6-8 weeks, the local company has provided two sets of two
techs to set up the LAN and now, a third set comes along and tells me that
Win 98 SE (UK) and all the programs, drivers, etc. need to be reinstalled on
the Celvin. Does this sound right? They of course want to charge me for
installing Win 98 and all the programs, so I obviously become suspicious,
particularly as they want to charge per program above and beyond what they
have already received for setting up the LAN without it working
satisfactorily for my needs.
Has anybody been in a similar situation where they have to reinstall the Win
system to get WinGate or a similar proxy to work?
Cheers,
Brian
