Wireless Networking

This maybe off topic, but I thought I needed to seek opinions of
folks from both platforms. I am supporting a small, 4 laptops and a
desktop server, mobile learning lab. We take this to different
libraries in a 17 county area in Kansas to teach librarians and
patrons about Internet use and general computer use. The desktop
either dials into a local connection, or we connect to a network
connection where possible. Then that connection is shared with the
laptops. The major hassle is all the cables and making them work with
the different arrangements we are forced to use in different
locations. I was wondering, can I put a wireless PCI card in the
desktop, and PC cards in the laptops and use wireless networking? Or,
do I need something like an Airport hub? The laptops are Gateway Solo
2500s , Celeron 300, 48Mb, Win98, and the desktop is a Pentium
III-350, 128Mb and Win98. Also, if I do need an Airport, do I still
need a mac to configure it, or will one of the PCs work?

Cordially,
