Bruce is correct about Griffin Technology; but there's an important item you
left out: Is your monitor fixed frequency or multiple frequency capable? If
it's multiple frequency capable, then it's sync on green... Or it could just be
a single frequency tube, which makes things harder... A LOT harder on a PC, in
fact; as I'll explain below.
Hook it up to an Mac that supports it and go into the Monitor Control Panel.
See if you're offered a choice of resolutions & possibly sync frequencies. If
it does, then you're in reasonably good shape. If not, then you have a problem
child: Write down the resolution and sync frequency listed.
The way a PC boots up is different than a Mac: It first starts out in 640 x
480 x 60 Hertz (VGA) mode; then when Windows or NT loads a different graphics
driver the resolution and refresh rate increase to the desired value. If you
have a single sync monitor that only displays, say, 1152 x 870 x 72 Hertz, you
can't view the black & white (VGA) portion of the boot cycle.... And that CAN
be a problem!
What you need to on a PC is to first hook up a multiple sync monitor, boot the
machine into Windows, go into the Display control panel and enter the
information you gleaned from the Mac Monitor control panel - 1152x870x72Hz in
my example; then switch monitor connections to the single freq screen and see
what happens. Windows gives you a 10 to 15 second test period after you hit
"Test" so you need to work quickly.
If the monitor syncs up, great!
If not, then you need to perform surgery and adjust it, which can be a bear if
you don't know what the different controls do.
Hope this helps!
