We've had good luck with the Lucent Wavelan (now known as Orinoco) Silver cards in non-Airport-capable G3 PBs. Only caveat is that if you use encryption (or as Apple likes to call it, "passwords"), you'll have to get the "Network Equivalent Password" from the Base Station. This is the hex equivalent of whatever your "password" is. It'll be something like:
12345 67890. To enter this as a WEP key in the Wavelan software, you'd type: 0x1234567890.

OR, to make life much easier, you can use the Airport Client Software (you should probably stick with whatever's most recent - 1.2, i think), which is compatible with the Lucent cards.

As usual, John Rizzo's MacWindows site has some great info on cross-platform issues with Airports:

I have an older G3 Powerbook that won't take an airport card. Does anyone
have any experience with using a PC card in a Powerbook that is compatable
with the airport base station? TIA. MVK
