Next message: Leonard Rosenthol: "Re: [WinMac] MS Office 2000"
My ha'porth: I haven't used Office 2000 much but have read what seems like a
zillion messages in the microsoft.public.* newsgroups. I get the impression
that:
* Word 2000 is on the whole more stable than Word 97, especially if you
install the SR-1 service pack. The ability to save and open documents in
XML/HTML works well (and is a new way of repairing damaged documents), but
there's not much other software yet that can do much with the *ML Word
produces.
* Access 2000 is a good deal more buggy than Access 97.
* Most simple macros from Office 97 will work in 2000, but cross-version
compatibility can't be taken for granted.
* Apart from Access, the file formats are the same in both versions and you
can use them side by side provided you don't use Office-2000-specific
features (such as custom text colours).
* There's no compelling reason to upgrade unless you need the *ML and web
features Office 2000 has and Office 97 lacks.
* There's no reason to avoid Office 2000 unless you're a database developer.
