Hi Bob,
I've tested both Apple's Airport and 3Com's AirConnect base stations
with PC (using 3Com PC-Cards) and Mac (using Airport cards) laptops.
The Airport base station gave us almost twice the range of the 3Com
AirConnect - which was the opposite of what we expected. Both base
stations worked flawlessly with both platforms and connection speed
was pretty similar, it was just the base station's range that
differed. I haven't yet had the opportunity to try a non-Airport
Lucent base station with better specs, but a colleague who uses one
on an ADSL connection at home with a Lucent PC-Card in his older
PowerBook tells me it's better than the AirPort.
Regards,
Chris.
