I had problems with my modem connection and had to wait until I got that
(more or less) fixed so that I could download directly (all my other
machines are Macs). I tried with a Mac formatted disc and got a prompt
saying the disc was not formatted - did I want to format (?). I can try
with a DOS disc, but the behavior seems consistent, so I do not have high
hopes.
On another note, while the dial out now functions, I have lost the
ability to get an " @ " sign and Opera 3.6.2 seriously stalls during the
process of downloading a file, when prompted where to save. The machine
freezes temporarily 4-5 times before the download process really gets
going. Sometimes the freeze is so serious that my ISP kicks me off.
I had to call in a local tech guy (in Ankara) and it took three tries and
two trips to his shop to get the modem connection working. I am afraid
that he has installed either an unmodified (non 98lite Pro modified)
driver or CAB file from either Win98 or 95, but as he refused to tell me
what he did to get it to work, I am at a loss to fix it. (Well, actually
he said that he didn't know what he did to get it to work, but he did
have a CD with him that he used, so he must have known some of what he
had done.
Here is a reminder of my system configuration:
IBM Aptiva 2168
Win98 SE (UK) clean install using 98lite Pro.
Danish keyboard.
