    Hi again,

Another problem that I am having is proving to be a real pain in the... I
recently reinstalled Win 98 on my kid's Aptiva using the 98lite Prof
version. It works absolutely fab. Here is the problem:

Since I did a straight Win98 SE (UK) install, none of the original
software for the Mwave card was installed. I know that it is a Dophin
Mwave card from past experience, so I installed the packet for this card.
The sound works great, but when I try to get the modem to dial out, it
doesn't recognize the dial tone. Even if I uncheck the 'wait for dial
tone" check box, I still get a warning that the modem doesn't detect a
    dial tone.

I tried using an ATT HyperTerminal node and it worked fine with the dial
out. The telephone number wasn't correct, so I changed it and then the
modem stopped working for the ATT HyperTerminal node as well. I have
tried changing inits for the modem and it doesn't seem to help.

The odd thing is that while the Mwave is listed correctly under both the
modem and multimedia areas of the System Control Panel, the Mwave isn't
listed under the "port" category. I tried to create a new one and after
COM 1, COM 2, COM 3, the new COM port was listed as 5.

Does anyone have an idea what is going on? I am about ready to pull my
    hair out in despair.

    Cheers,

    Brian
