That sounds familiar. My 850NE didn't show up on the network either. I reseated the NIC and that fixed it. Epson has a rich tradition of unreliable NICs. Their software RIPS are a little flaky too. After considering this, they still seem to be a bargain.

And there are inexpensive ink cartridges for the 850 available at www.ink4art.com. This site/shop often offers a discount via www.dealmac.com.
