    I'll second the recommendation for HomeSite which I find more comfortable for editing HTML than BBEdit, although less versatile in other areas--it really chokes on humongous files (large database exports, for instance), and isn't particular useful for XML, although it can be used for that purpose. I've found myself also using something called TextPad (www.textpad.com) for some heavy-duty ASCII editing when HomeSite gets in the way.
