yeah, thanks, i nailed tht one..
turns out not only were there loose cables, but the modelo of g3 i have (233
mt) DOESNT SUPPORT MULTIPLE IDE DRIVES ON THE SAME PORT!
innat a pain? couldnt believe apple would do that...
got it straight off of their site...just my run of g3's...
but i have a new problem...
i put a bunch of my favorite utilities on a cdr, and of course included an
8.6 sysem folder straight off of the 8.6 CD so it would be bootable.
but none of the macs i have access to will boot off this disc. and i noticed
the icon for the foloder changed from the system folder icon to a standard
    folder icon.
in fact i even went down to the compusa here and tried all of their macs,
and nothing would boot off of this disc.
what am i doing wrong? is it the CD format? i used toast and a TDK cdr as a
    mac volume.
as i understand it this should work...
