    Hi all,

We're having a troubling problem resolution of which I'm hoping this
    list can provide.

We have a cross-platform share (Win/Mac) on an NT 4.0 server called
"Class Submissions" (ClassSub). It's designed as a "dropbox" in
which professors can create folders as drop-off points for homework.

There are two key groups into one of which every user falls: Faculty
    and Students

Dropbox folders have NTFS permissions for Faculty set to RWXD.

The problem comes when trying to set the NTFS permissions for
students. If we set them on FOLDERS to RWXD for students, this
inexplicably works. Users can create new docs, edit docs they own,
but cannot edit or delete docs created by other users. I don't know
HOW or WHY this works, but it DOES. The problem with this setting is
that PC users can delete folders with these permissions. (You'd
expect that, wouldn't you? But Mac users CAN'T delete these same
    folders!)

If we remove the "D" (delete) flag from the folders, the Mac users
can't write to the folder any more! AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

Does anyone have any idea WHY?

    TIA,
    ...ROMeyn

PS: And don't anyone even come CLOSE to proposing Linux as a
solution. Linux is wonderful for many things. This ain't one of
    'em. We know!
