Bruce,
For once, Dan is actually the moderate one here. I'm the on the
anti-emulated Postscript war path. That is because I have a particular job
were I need to print Grey on a light blue background. HP's trapping is
leaving a full two pixel white border around every Grey item. It looks
horrible. HP support's answer - we can't help you because the file looks
horrible on our 8500n also.

In contrast, the file prints great off a Fiery, ColorPass, Cyclone,
Tektronix, and even software postscript to an Epson. HP has really lost it.

I am with Dan on the HP Color LaserJet 5M. When HP uses Adobe Postscript,
their printers are second to none. It's that 8500n I recommended to our
Hong Kong shop that is giving me fits.

HP was my standard for great service, whether in Barstow, Bismarck, Beirut,
or the Beijing, they had a local tech. Imagine my surprise when my tech in
Hong Kong got the oops - sorry treatment from theirs.

There is a reason why Adobe Postscript has been service bureau standard
since I was in High School. It works. When it fails, Adobe fixes it. When
Adobe can't they call in the Chuck Weger's and Jim Birkenseer's of the world
who you see speaking at Seybold every year.

I can tell you from experience that those guys will say oh Postscript
Emulator - there's the first place to look for your problem (probably
followed by a reference to the x-files faceless rebels and black oil, but
that truly is another subject).
