Yes, it was me. I have a customer with 2 Stylus Color 3000's and Birmy
RIP 5.2 software hanging off 2 parallel ports on an NT4.0/SP5 server with
SFM and printer pooling enabled, and it works fine.

Birmy RIP software will allow up to three printers to share the same RIP
server. Usually, the RIP time for 16 page magazine inserts would be less
than a minute.

Our problem with the epson RIP is this:IT IS SLOW!! But the quality is
unsurpassed. It appears that the Birmy RIP does not produce a true
stochastic (that is, entirely random) dot screen, but instead uses a
repeating pattern. This perhaps explains why it is about five times
faster than the Epson RIP, which does use a stochastic screen, with no
discernible pattern whatsoever.

From the appearance of the output, it did appear that the Birmy also
used FM screening, but I'm not 100% sure on that issue since it was
several months ago. But, the Epson RIP is also buggy and is Level 2,
while the Birmy RIP is Level 3.

        Hope this helps!
