Assuming you have MacOS 8.x:
[ if any of these steps are "impossible", you may need to install
OpenTransport from the System Installation CD ]
+ make sure the mac is physically connected to the network
+ open the "TCP/IP" control panel
+ Make sure to select "Connect via: Ethernet" and
"Configure: Using DHCP Server"
+ Press clover-I (or select Get Info from the "File" menu)
+ Write down the Hardware Address
+ it will look like "00 05 02 XX XX XX"
+ It may be necessary for you to give that address to your network
administrators (it might not be depending on how they have DHCP
set up).
+ When they have everything setup, reboot your macintosh.
+ You should be on your way...
