We're thinking of setting up a server between a Mac and a PC using Novell
Netware 4.1. I was wondering exactly what I need on the Mac to connect
to this.

We bought a book with a CD for two users. On the CD, my Mac identifies
only four files: DT.IPS, INSTALL.BAT, INSTALL.CMD, REV.E. The book
mentions Macintosh as being supported by this version of Netware. It
says that I must use an NDS connection. I sincerely hope that someone on
this list might help me figure this out and get the software I need for
the Mac - or find it on this CD if it's there.

Thank you in advance for your much needed assistance.

Rosemary

PS. This was also sent to MacDosCard list - apologies if anyone receives
two.

The Outlook for Exchange Mac client (new version just released) should
support calendars - provided you do a full install. However, the calendar
data appears to be stored locally on the Mac, meaning you can't log into
Outlook from a PC and expect to see your calendar data.

Maybe next time.

Oh, and certain forms aren't supported either, which I suspect is a visual
basic issue.

Cheers
Hamish

Hello all! I just had to email this since I am so happy that it works.
Thanks to all who helped straighten me out with the wintel, mac
networking differences.

Today, our "crappy" old powerbook 5300 acted as a print server &
networking connection for a couple of "foreign" wintel laptops. Frankly
I was amazed that it worked.

As a number of you noted a while back, with Dave running on the Mac,
wintel machines can connect together and print to printers connected via
ethernet to the Mac. The wintel laptops used TCP/IP & windows network
client and the mac just used Dave. We could transfer files, share
documents and everyone could print.

I am so psyched that I can hardly get over it!! (small things ....)

Thanks again for everyone's help with sorting out the wintel networking
side. Your help was really appreciated.
Regards
Philip

Anti-virus researchers warn that PC-emulation programs and multiplatform

Worm.ExploreZip virus as Windows computers.
[click link above for full story.]

Also, when searching hard drives, search for variants named
TROJ_EXPLORE.ZIP and I-Worm.ZippedFiles. I use the following strings (for

11:15 PM FOLLOW-UP: After I composed this note but before I could dial out
on COM2 on my analog modem to send it, I received a call from a major
client of mine. Guess what? They got hit with EXPLORE.ZIP. Turns out a
salesman was on the road and didn't pay attention to the memos sent to him.
He sent an eMail to a contact at AT&T, and promptly received back a message
*asking* him to open the attached zipped file. Ka-ching! :)

You won't be using Appletalk (Mac Services) to connect to the NT server with Outlook. Outlook is a mail client which generally use either MAPI or POP protocols to talk to the servers. These usually travel through TCP/IP and use particular IP sockets (ports). I don't use Outlook on a Mac so I don't know if there's even a way to make it go through Appletalk... but I'd say you're looking in the wrong place (Appletalk) and should concentrate on configuring your IP address on the Mac and accessing the server that way. Also, unless you are running DAVE, you won't be able to access the NT server by its NetBIOS name (like you do from the other PCs when you configure the Outlook client). Hope that helps.
