naw, these guys don't go for that, I already asked...

Because MacTCP does not suport DHCP... :(

We're in the process of getting the cache replaced.

Is this NT server the PDC for the domain you want it to log on to???

Security can be particularly weird in NT, especially if you have any sort
of trust relationships going on, do you?

I'm using Anarchie 3.5. It does give a complaint if I turn on the
FTP Proxy with Port 80, saying that it can only work with port 21.
And of course, MS Proxy can only use Port 80 for the FTP proxy.

But we have the FTP proxy turned off. We just have the http proxy set
and the SOCKS firewall set, with passive ftp checked. So Anarchie is
using SOCKS to get through the firewall. At least, that's my limited
understanding of it. ;)

Greetings,

My new boss is leaving a Windows environment where they use Outlook. She
has about 300 Contacts that she has exported from Outlook that she wants
me to import into Outlook Express 4.5 on her Mac. I have tried to import
the Contacts but it doesn't work.

Is there a utility to assist with this or does anyone have any tips???????

List:

One of my users sent the following message:

Since installing OS 8.5.1, I can no longer "drag & drop" copy from
hard drives that
are "visiting" me. [ie. when I select any computer, from the chooser
and try to copy from their hard
drive to the SyQuest drive (or my hard drive)...the process freezes
my computer].

The users she mounts are all using appletalk file sharing and OS 8.1.

I am a Windows user, and only know how to re-install things on the macs to
fix them. What do I need to reinstall?

Thanks,
Bill

What's the file format of her outlook export?

This question gets asked like clockwork every couple of weeks, either here, in the newsgroups, on the Mac e-mail web site, or various MacOE mailing lists. Hopefully, SOMEONE at MS is listening and will make a converter.

The only thing that seems to work for now is a tough slog.

1. Export the Win Outlook contacts into a flat file or Excel spreadsheet, and then open that up in Excel. Use Data -> Text to Columns... if necessary. Note the field (column) order and names, including *Reserved*.

2. Stuff a new record in Mac Outlook Express with info in every visible field, then export that to a flat file. Import that into Excel (Mac or Win), again noting the field order and *Reserved* field locations.

3. Go to the Win Excel file, and re-arrange and re-name the columns as needed to mirror the Mac export info. There are some minor, but critical, differences which I can't recall.

4. Save the Win spreadsheet as a plain text, comma- or tab-delimited, *.txt file.

5. Import the *.txt file into Mac Outlook Express.

This worked for me using Win Outlook 98 and Mac Outlook Express v4.0 sometime last year.

Good luck!

Hi,

One possibility is that the user is using Virex 5.8. Have them upgrade to 5.9. I went through that with 8.5 and Virex 5.8. It's a very reliable 'bug' <G>

I discovered it on my own machine through trial and error with turning off various extensions. Another resource is www.macfixit.com

Marlan

[note from the moderator: the latest version of Virex is 5.9.1]
