Check the authentication method on the proxy server. I'm not sure about
proxy, but on IIS for example, if the authentication is anything other
than Basic Authentication (maybe NT Challenge / Response) the Macs won't
go through. In your case the Macs are going through, but I would still
check it. Also check to see if between the Mac and the proxy server (and
then the outside if necessary) there are more than one authenticating
server... For example an SQL database that you need to go through or some
such other "nonsense" ;)

And finally make sure that the proxy server has 'HTTP Keep Alives'
checked on. I'm pretty sure MS's proxy server has that option. I can
check on Monday.

This is all speculation, just ideas, so, sorry if it sounds ludicrous.
