I seem to remember that, at least on the Mac side, the original QT3
installer forced the get QuickTime Pro movie to stay on the desktop no
matter what you tried. Shortly after that, Apple released an updated
installer that wasn't quite so persistent (it placed it there during the
install but let you delete it later). You might try getting a fresh install
package from the Apple site.

Of course, you could always upgrade to the Pro version. '-)
