[WinMac] Printing with IP from Mac to Win network

Short Question: I'm trying to get postscript printouts from an HP8000 and a
Xerox 32N which live on the PC side of our network.

Detailed Explanation:
Our Mac environment is a small network segment on an otherwise large PC
Ethernet network.
On the PC network, they have a HP8000 and a Xerox N32 (both Postscript
printers) which I want to print to from my Mac.
I setup an LPR desktop printer (downloaded the appropriate PPD). The Desktop
Printer Utility had no trouble connecting to the printers via IP. And I
could set it up through the chooser.

When I print however, my Mac freezes or the printers just print raw
postscript.
Both printers default language is PCL not Postscript but are supposed to be
autoswitching. The PC users print to them via a NT Print Spooler. (with a
User page in between)

So I thought I'd try Dave (from Thursby). I again created a printer via the
Dave Print Client. When I print from QuarkXPress I get the warning that I
can't print binary (a limitation of NT Print Spoolers I believe?). Even if I
convert all EPS images to ASCII and tell QXP to sent the print job in ASCII
it gives me the same error. If I suppress the images it sends the document
but again it only generates raw postscript.

Anybody has an idea what else to try?

Thanks...martin
