        Dear Bruce:

        The LC-II (a/k/a Performa 405; 68020, no FPU, 32 bit clean, 4MB soldered)
can indeed use 9 bit (8 bit + parity) SIMMs with no problem... The parity
bit is simply ignored.

        Watch out for the memory controller: It only recognizes 10 megabytes -
Period. If you install a pair of 2 MB SIMMs, you'll get 8 MB. If you
install a pair of 4 MB SIMMs, the last 2 MB is ignored.
