I have a similar situation with DAVE 2.0 on mac OS 8.5.1:

I have a cbale modem and use DHCP to obtain an IP address from my ISP to
surf. I have DAVE turned on all the time so that I can share stuff with
the PC I have here without having to reboot. The kicker is that while I
don't obtain an IP address everything behaves normally (obviously I can't
use DAVE since it provides NetBIOS over TCP/IP, but when I need to use it
and I'm not surfing, I just assign an address to the card). When I obtain
an address, and try to disconnect from my ISP I get errors because DAVE
doesn't want to let go of the address (even though there are no open
sessions with anyone). I used to be able to go into my TCP/IP control
panel and change the configuration to release the lease from the ISP (or
as close as you can get on a Mac).

My rantings here are all to say this: I wish DAVE had a feature that
wuold allow you to manage leases, release, renew, etc. Thursby???

BTW the only way I've found I can disconnect when DAVE is on is by force
quitting DAVE after I disconnect from my ISP.
