On the subject of reinstalling Outlook for Mac...

Outlook installs an obsolete version of Microsoft OLE. If you have
Microsoft Office 98 installed on a machine along with Outlook, having two
versions of OLE installed at the same time might cause problems. (One
version is an extension, the other is a shared library).

I have never actually left the two versions installed on my machines, so I
can't say what the results might be.

To install Outlook on a Mac along with Office 98, this is what I do:

- Install Office 98

- Install Outlook SP2 (first, delete any preferences from previous installs
-- this is important)

- Open the Extensions folder and delete every file that starts with the word
"Microsoft" (such as "Microsoft OLE Library")

- Reboot

- Run "Microsoft Office First Run." This will re-install all the missing
shared libraries with the most recent versions.

I have not had any reproducible crashes with Outlook SP2 on either of my
9600's (OS 8.5.1).
