Alex,

You were not mistaken.

There is a very good and thorough article at page 30 of April, 99 issue
(not online yet) of MacWorld magazine. Covers everything.

There are currently 2 and will be 3 cards from Micro Conversions and
Formac that can be added to the slot . . . against Apple's orders not to
(possibly voiding warranty . . . but maybe not if installed by dealer).

A further adapter will restore this Mezzanine slot to the new iMacs that
don't have it.

The cards will be used to:

1) to add a $199 2d/3d 8-meg-ram graphics card with voodoo2 chip
(instead of 12 meg due to cramped quarters and heat consideration).

2) to add a $100 Ultra Wide SCSI bootable port (SCSI 3 connector --
cables may be hard to find -- may need adapters to your SCSI) allowing
use of all SCSI peripherals and providing necessary drivers.

3) to add a $149 board that incorporates a SCSI connector, TV tuner, and
S-Video in port.

This last sounds fabulous.

Installation is no piece of cake for a rookie, but should be doable for
most of you on this list. Remove 5 screws. Cramped quarters.

For installation of the game wizard, you must also reroute the iMacs
internal video cable to the connector on the board.

Formac is bundling the SCSI card with its Power RAID Control software,
which allows RAID levels 0 and 1 storage systems.

Sounds very interesting and VERY MACINTOSH!!!
