[WinMac] Open Transport vs NT DHCP

We've "upgraded" our network a week ago. We've now got a large number of
Nortel (Bay) routers and are using different NT 4 DHCP servers. As a
result we've had many TCP/IP problems with our PowerMacs... Some of these
issues are discussed/resolved at
<http://www.macintouch.com/imacdhcp.html>.

Of course the network people are blaming "my" lousy Macs. I'm inclined to
mutter darkly about Microsoft's creative interpretation of the DHCP
standard, and perhaps our still very flakey network. The maddening thing
is that the first segment to be moved to the new network, a month ago,
had none of these problems.

What we're experiencing is this:

1. Open Transport Macs unable to resolve IP addresses. Resolved by
deleting the TCP/IP preferences file, forcing Open Transport to request a
new IP address from the new DHCP server.

2. Open Transport Macs are now acquiring IP addresses and functioning for
20 minutes. Then they appear to lock up trying to resolve an IP address.

If anyone has suggestions about the source of this problem, I'd love to
hear them. If you need more information, please e-mail me at
<mailto:benl@sickkids.on.ca> or <mailto:nobleswan@home.com>.

Despairingly,
