I had this problem too, setting up our Canon ColorPass 5000/CLC 800 printer
on a Blue+White G3 running OS 8.5.1. The tech from Canon suggested to use
the Adobe PS Printer 8.5.1. When I installed PSPrinter 8.5.1 on a
Blue+White G3, it replaced PrintingLib 8.6 with PrintingLib 8.5.1.
Fortunately PrintingLib 8.6 was in the trash can, so I just put it back in
the extensions folder and the Mac has worked fine, been able to print ever
since.
