have been taught) tends to be collocation of shared libs in close to
the App- preferably not in the same folder, since then it looks like
a winxx setup (ever opened the directory Office97 resides in on
Win??? YUCK!!). Most functionality does not have to be added at
startup to the system heap. Extensions are in most cases a lazy way
of doing things, and largely responsible for any crashes you might
see in the MacOS. When my iMac was running 8.5 (I am now playing w/
8.6 via my job) it might have crashed once every 3-4 weeks.

For a good example of this shared lib idea look at GoLive
Cyberstudio. VERY full featured, mostly stable (there are a few
quirks) app. No extensions. No reboot. Now if we could get office to
keep its shared libs hidden from our nice, trim sys folders.

8.6 was very stable until I started using a my standard repertoire of
apps (which is fairly large). I'm going back to 8.5 when my new iMac
(lime... got a promotion) arrives.

A bit off topic but worth noting.
