It's not a cost issue at all- in fact the hardware is on the iMac
motherboard for floppy and serial. It is about moving towards a
networked paradigm.

On a secondary note, the biggest overal purchase for new pc buyers is
a large capacity removable storage drive. So why include a floppy if
it is going to be supplemented immediately?
