Norton has Zip Rescue, which uses a floppy for the initial boot, then loads a
"rescue" version of the OS from Zip to allow you to recover trashed parts of
your system. Not quite what you're looking for, I suspect, but somewhat
helpful nonetheless. Oh, and it's free.
