        I would suggest a hardware device if you have the money. I
have a $500 box that has 2 ethernet ports on it. It does Network
Address Translation plus it functions as a firewall to protect you
from many of the more common IP based attacks. I set it up once and
now I completely ignore it. It just works, and it never crashes
unlike every computer that I have ever seen.
        The one that I have is from Sonic Systems at
http://www.sonicsys.com/ I'm happy with it, and I know that there
are others out there that do the exact same thing.
