[WinMac] Printing to a TCP/IP LW640 From Win98

Howdy,

We added a Win98 machine to our (Mac + Unix) ethernet at home, but cannot
get Win98 to recognize or use the printer without a $150 appletalk stack.
Since my wife requires ;+)> me to integrate this PC, I feel sort of stuck.
The other machines as well as the PC happily share the cable modem served
by a Mac, but no place seems to exist to specify an IP address for the
printer.

I know this can be solved in about 5 minutes with NT, but I don't have that
option. I also don't have the option of just running a paralell cable to
the printer, which is what the manual suggests.

The gurus at work are not sure--mgmt. won't let them fool with anything
other than NT. Some say we're screwed, others say that there should be a
way to "bind the protocol using a manual WINS configuration" (or some
such.) I really hate the thought of having to buy an inkjet printer for
Bill Gate's personal use....

Any thoughts? This tuckered out publications manager (from Nextel) is
stumped...all markers called in, all favors taken advantage of, etc. (I'll
ignore the thought of what a fine crash the PC would make from the 16th
floor...not that I haven't had it....)

Thanks!
