[WinMac] NT SFM and locked files from locked folders

I haven't seen a similar question posted before, and was wondering if this
behavior has been seen by others.

We have a CD jukebox (NSM Satellite with SmartStorage SmartCD server
software for NT) that we recently installed on our Windows NT server 4.0
with service patch 3 running NT Services for Macintosh. We use this
jukebox to house archived graphics jobs, which often need to be pulled back
to our Mac clients for revision.

SmartCD starts up its own file share called SmartCD when it runs. When the
shared service is mounted from a Mac and the files on a CD are viewed, the
icons indicate that the folders (and therefore the files in them) are
locked. This is fine, since CD-ROM is a read-only medium and I wouldn't
expect to be able to modify the files. But, when we copy a project folder
from CD to the Mac's hard drive, the folder and all of the enclosed files
remain locked. If the files are to be modified, they must be unlocked
first (select each file, do Get Info, uncheck Locked box, close info
window). I suppose there are utilities to streamline this, but regardless,
it just adds steps to the process.

This behavior apparently extends to any locked folder on an NT share. We
also have a couple of file shares on the NT server. Whenever a folder
appears locked from changes due to NT file permissions, copying files from
that folder to the Mac result in locked files on the Mac's hard drive.
This behavior doesn't happen with an AppleShare server.

Another niggler -- I can't navigate "backwards" in a file structure by
holding down the command key on a Mac while clicking on the NT share's
folder window name. This works fine on a local Mac or Apple server, but
apparently not with NT.

Are these known behaviors of SFM, and are there patches? I've had so many
little annoyances and "can't get there from here"'s while setting up the
jukebox on NT that I'll probably end up moving the jukebox to an Apple
server. I'd appreciate any suggestions for jukebox software for Mac
servers.
