Too bad the heat from this win vs. Mac thing couldn't be converted into
energy. I think we could power a small city. <g>

I would be less than honest if I didn't admit to being a little upset
with some of Dan's posts and feeling arrogant about some of the pro-mac
replies.

However, in choosing a computer for our church I learned a lot about both
systems. I'm very pro Mac and the people on my board are very pro PC. I
posed the question to this list and very much appreciated the replies I
got back. And it was especially replies like Dan's I appreciated since he
is acquainted with both sides. As in spite of seeming anti-Mac bias, I
recall he gave me a fairly even-handed response. And it was those
replies that helped to temper my strong views along with tempering those
of my committee members. They recognized that the Mac was not a dead
platform. That it was powerful, easy to use and to configure. I
recognized that NT was perhaps even more stable and robust than the Mac
OS and not the monster that I'd thought it was. And it helped steer both
of our sides away from screw-driver-jobs and Win95/98.

(BTW, this *is* a professional list judging by some of the
occupations/positions I see listed on the 'signature'. It was very
impressive to our committee and myself to realize that these were not
just Mac-haters or Windows-bashers blowing steam.)

I printed your responses for each committee member and that more than
anything helped them realize that either way there were challenges. In
the end they reluctantly allowed me to get a Mac which was a *huge*
concession on their part. I also made sure that the peripherals (monitor,
zip, modem) we got would be able to be used on both platforms. It was
humbling for me.

I appreciated Chris's post:

>I heartily agree that all this griping about Steve Jobs is pointless.
>Next, there will be griping about Bill Gates. Let's get back to the focus
>of this forum and that is for those who need technical help and/or advice
>to come here and get it. We are all supposed to be professionals and
>recommend the best tools to get the job done. If that means we should use
>a Mac or an NT workstation or UNIX or whatever, then we use it regardless
>of what we do not like about the manufacturer.

I agree mostly, and yet I have to admit that I've learned a lot by
listening to the 'flames' on both sides. And hey, some of it is just
plain humerous which is good for the soul!

Thanks again,

Marlan
