Look at http://www2.opendoor.com/asip/ Yes, even TCP/IP uses Appletalk. It's
just encapsulated in TCP/IP packets. She really may be afraid of
unencapsulated A/talk from the machines talking to each other and the
printer. Shareway IP (see above link) will eliminate A/talk between systems
by allowing OS8.1 and above systems to use AppleShare IP, but you still need
to use unencapsulated A/talk to your printer(s).

To get rid of unencapsulated A/talk across the network, just put all of the
Macs in their own subnet and turn off A/talk bridging in the router.
Encapslated A/talk (as well as HTTP, FTP, etc) will still go through the
router since it looks like TCP/IP from the outside. This will let you access
IP based network services in the rest of the company while keeping her
network's vital bodily fluids pure.
