I see we're getting some mileage out of this drive issue. That's great, it
gets all the lurkers interested :-)

First of all, for Mr. Jacobson,

I believe we are splitting hairs a bit. What I said at the start of all
this was, that many many people do not realize that Apple does not make the
entire computer (many many people MEAN the masses, not you and not people
on this list.) I didn't put it that way but that is what I meant. And Apple
doesn't. They don't make every part of a monitor, a hard drive, or a logic
board. This surprises many ab initio computer types. They are surprised to
see IBM hard drives in Apple products, enhanced or not. They are surprised
to take things apart and see other manufacturers production stamps. We all
know that Apple enhances all their products, but that's our business to
know. However, we are a very small minority of the Mac population. When
Steve Jobs arrived in Japan to meet with the Citoh people about the first
Imagewriter design, their engineers had no idea what he was talking about.
He gave them the ideas, the specs (the enhancements if you like, it was
totally in his head) and they built it to his specs. Most people don't know
this and that is ALL that I am saying.

For Mr Schwartz,

Sigh.........

I'd be very interested in seeing the TIL that outlines what you claim,
especially since I obtained my information from Apple support. I hardly
think that a sticker on hard drive consitutes prima facie proof that it
contains a Apple ROM. It is also interesting that I was able to overcome
this firmware by merely defining a new hard drive definition (and I didn't
use any patch.) However, at the same time, it wouldn't be the first
situation that I have been mislead by Apple support (as I'm sure some of
you may have been). Please contact me directly, so we can continue this off
this site, as we ought to.

For Thomas Kase,

The Apple ROMS is a wire head thing :-) You're correct, it really doesn't
matter that much. We should really be talking about this on the ASPN
consultants list, not here in a winmac forum, my apologies to those who I
have bored. I'll keep to the win/mac stuff which is more interesting anyway.

And Merry Christmas!
