Mike,
The dialup networking on the PC side takes care of initializing the modem
for me and ARA Client 2.1 takes care of it for me on the Mac side. I have
also used FreePPP on the Mac side and AOL 3.0 on both the Mac and PC side.
Whichever OS you're using has to be "told" in advance what kind of modem
you're using, but once it's setup you can pretty much forget it. It just
works!
