Beth,

We use exchange server for about 160 users and run it on a dual Pentium 150
machine with 160 MB RAM along with a webserver, SFM, a couple of print
queues and MSSQL (used very little). Performance has been fine so far (knock
on wood.)

The program that comes with Mac Office98 is Outlook Express, and can be
downloaded with Internet Explorer 4 for free. The Outlook client for Mac
that is shipped with exchange is a poor substitue for Outlook 98. It will
not handle internet mail directly, but you can read and send internet mail
through the exchange server. If people require access to more than one mail
account, one or more being internet mail, Outlook Express is a good
solution. You can use IMAP to access the exchange server and keep everything
in place in the users mailbox, and the web access feature of Exchange can
give users access to their calendar from a web browser. You should probably
pick one method or the other though (Outlook Express vs Outlook for Mac),
since as far as I know Outlook for Mac and Outlook for PC calendars don't
coexist well. At least I haven't figured out how to integrate them yet.
