        Dear Brian and Al; and everyone else:

        Please see my post correcting my error on OS X. It was sent to the WinMac
list Monday at 12:15PM EDT. Below is the full text, including headers.

        As for Apple screwing over the millions of owners of 60x series machines,
I stand firmly behind that statement. The 44xx, 63xx, 64xx, and 65xx series
machines are still available NEW in the distribution channels!

        I can accept that NuBus PowerPC machines would not be supported: I was
tipped off to this issue on the BeOS site at:
 <http://www.be.com/support/qandas/powermac.html>, and:
 <http://www.be.com/support/guides/beosreadylist_ppc.html>; but I cannot
and *will not* accept that the dozens of 604-based 7500's, 7600's, 8500's,
8600's, 9500's, and 9600's I have recommended and installed are soon going
to be commercially obsolete.

        In re your argument about 486 support:
        A) There are still 486 machines on the Microsoft HCL (Hardware
Compatibility List) <http://www.microsoft.com/hwtest/hcl/default.htm> for
NT4, such as the Compaq Prosignia VS;
        B) The Mach kernel (as well as Linux) will run nicely on a 486, so CPU
"horsepower" is not an issue for OS/X;
        C) The 486 CPU was replaced by the Pentium series over 4 years ago...
About the same time as the original PowerMacs shipped in March, 1994!

        As I said before, I'm fed up with Steve Jobs' littering my customers with
machines and software where support is killed off. AIX and the Network
Server 500's & 700's are a classic example. And let's not forget A/UX on
the Workgroup Server 95's, either. Or Pixar Showplace and Typestry for
MacOS & Windows... Remember, Jobs owns Pixar, too.

        Pissed off former MacOS evangelist,
        Daniel L. Schwartz

        I stand corrected... OS X and the "Carbon" API was not clearly defined
when I read about it in MacWeek when it was announced.
