As a client, Appletalk over IP will co-exist with Appletalk.

That is to say, don't worry about it. Your home set-up will still
work. Anyways, is there any way to "rip out" Appletalk from the
MacOS? i don't think so.

i'd say your main concern is asking the system admins at work how
they're going to support you for printing (is there Appletalk over IP
for printing?) and for file sharing on a server.

Presumably they're gonna run AppleShareIP6 (or whatever it's called)
or NT 5.0 (if it ever materializes out of vapor) or netatalk (the
asun version with IP support) to give you access to the files.

i'm just not sure how that all works for printing.

But at any rate, you'll be fine at home.

(Ew, long rambling post.)

Oh, one other thing. If your PowerBook supports it, you might be able
to get the special SCSI cable that puts your PB into "hard disk" mode,
and you can plug it in and mount it on your desktop machine like any
other hard drive.
