Beth,

I have used the MS Outlook client (Mac) to send messages to accounts on the
local Exchange server as well as "Internet" addresses. From the client end
the difference I see when composing a message is that I can choose from the
Global Address Book for internal addresses, while external (i.e.,
"Internet") addresses require that I enter the full address (e.g.,
bethg@hhn.com). For frequently used addresses I can create Personal
Address Book (PAB) or Contact List entries. Either will enable
point-and-click selection of names/addresses. If I'm browsing my PAB, the
"Properties" menu item or button reveals the details (full internet
address) of a given address book entry.

That said, I recognize that if the MS Exchange server doesn't have a link
to the Internet, the exercise is pointless. However, if you can
successfully use Internet addresses from a PC Outlook client, I'd be hard
pressed to explain why a Mac client wouldn't work as well.

Probably the simplest test is to attempt to reply to an "external" message
you've received.

A separate issue is how you've chosen to save PAB's and Personal Mail
Folders. At this location the PC users can save these documents on the NT
file server and have access from any workstation. Mac users, because of a
"clear text" password issue related to the NT file server, save these items
on their local desktop computer.
