This part of it, at least could probably be handed by a shareware program
like Birthdays and Such (which I came across on Info-Mac some time ago).
It may not be able to import data from a Word file, but if the dates you
need to keep track of aren't too many, a brief copy-and-paste session
should take care of that.
As I recall it, the readme file said it has a small RAM requirement, and
automatically pops up when the computer is booted.
