Our firm (of chartered accountants) is slowly replacing ageing 68X000 PowerBooks
and 6100, 7100 and 7200 PowerPCs with Dells and Thinkpads. And people remark
how much quicker and stable a new PC with 64 Meg RAM is over a four year old Mac
(on System 7.5.3!) with only 8 - 16 Meg RAM?

Currently, we are in a multi platform environment (I won't say cross platform,
because Macs are still using Word 6, whereas PCs are Word 9 or Word 97) although
we all use Quickmail and Meeting Maker, soon to be Exchange.

I understand that the IT budget will increase by $600 - $800 Australian dollars
once we are fully PC.

Me? I've bought a PowerBook (refer separate post about my Netware difficulties)
and am cruising along with Office 98 on the Mac.
