I, too, installed Office 98 with the installer rather than drag and
drop, and have a little list of Word Perfect formats to choose from in the
Save As dialog.
While I'm here, I thought I should also share a trick I happened on
at work one day. The boss had a Word Perfect Windows file from home and
wanted to open it at work. No one at work has Word Perfect, but I have
Office 98 on the lonely Mac I made them buy a couple of years ago. I tried
with initial confidence to open the file in Word, and it was no go. After
hassling around with Can Opener and other unsatisfactory efforts, I opened
it in File Buddy on the Mac and changed its type and creator codes to match
those of a Word document. It opened perfectly, almost all formatting
intact! It could of course have been done with ResEdit or any of a number
of other type/creator code changers but I like File Buddy.
It now occurs to me it may have worked with MacLink 10, too, but I
don't recall that I tried that. Actually, I think I did, and it didn't
fully work for us. Anyway, it was quite shocking how completely it worked
to change its file type and creator code then just open it from the
File/Open command in Word.
