Subject: Powerbook & bidirectional parallel port?

Hi all-
Here's a query about something that I think would be
very useful, but I have not been able to locate.
I have several PC-compatible pieces of hardware that
I would like to access from Virtual PC running on a Powerbook G3.
Macs don't have parallel ports, of course, but Infowave's PowerPrint
comes with a Mac-serial-to-PC-parallel converter cable. In
theory, VPC can use this to talk to parallel devices, and there's
a description of how to do this on Connectix's web page. However,
I have been unable to get this to work using VPC 2.1/Win95 and a
Casio DP-8000 printer. (I get "printer not responding errors" and
windows application crashes...)
My hunch is that PowerPrint is a monodirectional parallel
implementation, since most PC printers don't talk back to the computer.
It seems likely that the Casio printer is trying to communicate back
to the computer and failing to do so. So, what I seek is a
bidirectional parallel interface for the powerbook. It strikes me
that such an interface would probably work best from the PC Card
port, since it could potentially be a cross-platform solution for
powerbooks and PC notebooks without parallel ports (or in need of
an additional one). My web searching so far has come up empty.
So, has anyone managed to talk to a bidirectional parallel
printer or scanner from a powerbook, or heard of a product that might
help? Thanks!
