>Hello,

>We have several Macintosh users with Word 6 and some Windows 95 users with
>Word 97. A Word document coming from a Windows user can only be read by a
>Mac user when it was saved in Word 6 format, which they always forget to do
>at first.

One of my clients has mainly Windows 3.1 computers with Word 6 and one
Windows 95 computer with Word 97. I set his single copy of Word 97 to
default to saving in Word 6 format and this ensures that everyone in the
office can share files without having to think about the save format
first.

Very occasionally saving in Word 6 format loses some formatting that Word
97 can handle but which Word 6 cannot, but this is so rare that it is not
a significant nuisance -- most uses of Word in that office are basic
wordprocessing and noone else in the office knows anything about the new
features of Word 97.

If you seldom need the new features of Word 97 that affect file format,
this simple work around might help you.
