No I don't think you've stumped every one.

I currently have and wintel box sitting next to my power mac.

You can do it over ethernet.

1) Is using a twisted pair cable which allows you to connect the two
machines together with out a hub.

You can buy that cable from Redmond Cable, in Redmond, Washington.

2) You can use a hub.

-----

In either case if you use the system software from both Apple and
Microsoft. You can set up a shared partition on the wintel box that the
mac will see.

The bad news is, you can't get the wintel box to see that mac hard
drives unless you have a router and atleast one zone set up.

It's not a perfectly elegant solution, yet it works.
